Certainly the aviation industry isn’t immune to the occasional curse word… hell, I have heard quite a few conversations between pilots and mechanics myself where every other word is a “colorful adjective.”  That said, this colorful caricature of a female aviator (also known as an Aviatrix) buzzing about and dropping the “F-Bomb” certainly is a funny commentary on the skygods of swearing!

Other than being a cute theme for a light-hearted flying-related tattoo, this tattoo is a great example of the awesome depth of color that can be achieved by today’s pigments used in tattooing.  A wide variety of colors and hues are now being used by artists… some pigments even being developed by artists themselves!  Some of these colors would have been unheard of 20 years ago… but now, the art is truly going through a renaissance of sorts with the medium!

This awesome tattoo was created by tattoo artist Mikey Sarratt who tattoos with High Noon Tattoo Parlor in Phoenix, AZ.  High Noon Tattoo Parlor is a great collaboration of experienced artists in the Phoenix area and spans a wide spectrum of styles… check them out!

Most of us in aviation have played, at one time or another, with a radio control or RC plane.  Some of us excel at it and become pros with the model… twisting and turning it around the sky with ease and generally looking good while doing it.

Then there are those of us, like me, who miserably fail — after spending hours building up a model, working with a pro as a trainer, and finally taking the step to “solo” only to sadly walk home with a pile of parts at the end of the day.  Yep, that was me.

In any case, RC pilots are passionate about their hobby and can sometimes spend thousands of dollars on aircraft, radios, engines and other equipment… kind of like the money some of us spend on tattoos… but without the equipment!

This tattoo was created by artist Jay Ski of 603 Tattoo Company in Salem, NH.  Based on the notes on his site, this tattoo was done on his fiancee — most likely in honor of her father based on the “dad” on the nose.

We all remember our dreams of flight as a kid, when we took the sheet of lined filler paper and made our first attempt at a paper airplane with it.  Unfortunately many of us failed to take into account such concepts as center of gravity and the fast that there were two huge holes in the wing for the binder rings!

Artist Jason Sweet of Freaks and Geeks Tattoo Studio of Fullerton, CA playfully placed a permanent picture of a paper plane on a passionate person — how’s that for alliteration!
